On the eve of World Refugee Day the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Education, Center for Children and Adolescents "Evrika" conducted a competition of children' works called "Supporting the flame of hope".
The organization committee received more than 1300 children's drawings, posters, compositions and poems from all the regions of the Republic of Belarus. Owing to participation in the contest they learnt about the problems of refugees. In the works pupils depicted their view on the refugee problem. By learning about the tragic lives of refugees children and teenagers start appreciating more the peaceful situation in their own country, learn to be tolerant, merciful.
100 of the best works will be exhibited in the National Museum of History and Culture (Minsk, ul. K. Marksa, 12) from the 12 June till the 12 July 2008.
The grand opening of the exhibition will take place on the 12 June 2008. The UNHCR Representative in the Republic of Belarus Sholeh Safavi, officials of the Ministry of education, heads of national communities, art groups of the Centre for Children and Adolescents "Evrika".
The winners of the contest will take part in the gala-concert when the awarding ceremony will take place. The gala-concert will take place on the 19 June, 2008 in the Republican Culture Palace of Veterans (Minsk, ul Y. Kupaly, 21).
