The day has started with the exciting registration!  We have modeled the border crossing, the migration service, and the UNHCR Office. Participants had the opportunity to feel the challenges that refugees are facing every day.

AssociateProtection Officer to the UNHCR Office in Belarus Timofey Solodkov and Head of the Observation Board of the INA "Evolutio" Victor Shadursky presented their opening speeches. Timofey Solodkov on behalf of the UNHCR welcomed the participants of the II Summer School on Refugee Law and wished them productive work during the event. Victor Shadursky cited examples, which only confirmed the importance of raising awareness about the problems of refugees and stateless persons, and expressed confidence that the Summer School would be useful and interesting for participants.

The day continued with Andrey Selivanov, executive director of the INA "Evolutio" also presented a lecture. He told about the UNHCR activities in the world and in Belarus.

The first half of the day ended with a role game and lecture from the Protection Associate of theUNHCR Office in Belarus Zoya Golovneva. She explained the basis of international law and shared relevant statistics!

The second half of the day was opened by Anna Talerenok, who represents the UN Resident Coordinator's Office. In her lecture, she has touched the international legal regulation of human rights protection.

Next speaker was Olga Borzenkova, a specialist from the International Organization for Migration. She paid attention to the activities of the IOM in Belarus and in the world and stressed the impact of the Global Compact on Migration on the regulation in this sphere.

The first day concluded with the screening of the movie dedicated to the refugee issues in Belarus "Refugees of the XIXI century".
