The Contest of Art Works "Refugees and Statelessness"

CONTEST OF ART WORKS
«REFUGEES AND STATELESSNESS»

The goal of the Contest is to enhance the awareness among Belarusian student youth on the problem of forced migration and statelessness and to increase, through clear and simple images, the understanding that the problem of refugees and statelessness requires taking measures not only by the state, but also by each citizen.

Contest objectives:
— to draw attention of the Belarusian public towards the refugee and statelessness problem;
— to create visual materials aimed at increasing of the awareness and understanding of the problems of forced migration and statelessness;to promote the development of tolerance and respect to refugees and stateless persons in the Republic of Belarus;

The Contest is announced in the following nominations:
— prototype of an information campaign to cover the problem of refugees and (or) statelessness (a concept, a visual style which will be possible to adapt to various formats and a slogan);
— poster / photo work / photo poster;
— graffiti sketch / picture.

The beginning of the Contest — 20 February 2020, deadline for submissions — 1 October 2020.

The results of the Contest will be announced no later than on 20 October 2020.

Full-time students of higher education institutions and vocational training institutions of the Republic of Belarus have the right to participate in the Contest.

Individual authors and creative student groups are entitled to participate in the Contest.

In order to participate in the Contest it is necessary to submit the following documents:

— originals of the works on the topic of the Contest in electronic form (to be downloaded on the google cloud of the INA “Evolutio” – link: https://forms.gle/VqEX8JnZfzqdERbj8 );
• by mail: 220050, Minsk, PO Box 245, INA “Evolutio”. The envelope must be marked “The Contest of Art Works”.

— a filled contest participant application form;

— a certificate of educational institution of the Republic of Belarus stating that the participant is a full-time student of the institution.

Requirements to the prototype of an information campaign:

every work submitted to the competition must
— contain:
1) a brief explanation of the concept (no more than 150 words) of the campaign slogan;
2) visual design (style, image, logo, etc.)
3) illustration / proposal to adapt the visual design for use in 4-5 formats (elements, media)
— be in electronic format 30x45 cm 300 dpi.

Requirements to the poster/photo work:

— a work sent to the competition should be in electronic format 30x45 cm 300 dpi, the work should include a description and its relevance to the topic (no more than 1000 characters with spaces). The text shall also include one highlighted phrase, which may be used in connection with the picture;

Requirements to the graffiti sketch / picture:

— a work sent to the competition should be in electronic format 30x45 cm 300 dpi, the work should include a description and its relevance to the topic (no more than 1000 characters with spaces). The text shall also include one highlighted phrase, which may be used in connection with the picture;
— participants submitting a graffiti sketch must be prepared, if their work is selected by the jury, to transfer the sketch to a surface agreed with the organizers of the contest. Supplies for applying graffiti will be provided by the organizers of the competition;

It is prohibited to use the UNHCR logo in submitted works. In the future, winners (laureates) of the Contest may be asked to include the UNHCR logo to display works for further usage.

Participants who will be engaged in plagiarism or in use of borrowed ideas will be not allowed to further participate in the Contest.

Works must not contain materials promoting discrimination, hatred or scenes of violence on racial, ethnic, national, language, religious grounds or on the basis of sex, age of a person.

The copyright for the submitted work belongs to the UNHCR with the possibility of further use for non-commercial purposes.

The author is fully liable for published materials and guarantees the observance of the third parties’ rights.  It is obligatory to obtain the consent of all interviewed persons, asylum-seekers, refugees to publish their photographs and video recordings.

Submitted materials for the Contest are not retrieved.

It is planned that winners of the Contest (individual authors and groups) will receive the following money awards in each nomination:

1 prize — 1000 (one thousand) BYN.

2 prize — 500 (three hundred fifty ) BYN.

3 prize — 100 (one hundred) BYN.

The number of winners, terms of the Contest and the amount of money awards may be changed according to work evaluation commission.

By the Commission’s recommendation the works may be used for screening in front of the wider audience.
