On October 10, 2013 a round table on the issues of multicultural education for the members of the regional education departments and representatives of educational institutions of Grodno and Grodno region took place on the basis of the Grodno Region Institute of Educational Development. The event was organized by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Office in the Republic of Belarus, Education Department of Grodno Region Executive Committee and International Non-governmental Association for Scientific Research, Information and Educational Programmes «Evolutio». The event was held in the framework of the EU—UNHCR Project «Local Integration of Refugees in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine (phase II)».

Every year thousands of people are forced to flee from their homes owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion. These people are located outside the country of their nationality, and are unable to or, owing to such fear, are unwilling to avail themselves of the protection of that country. Very often their way to a new safe life is becoming a harsh experience accompanied by the loss of the loved ones, humiliation and other hardship.
On September 18, 2013 the opening of the Seminar «Interviewing techniques and credibility assessment in the context of interviewing of persons seeking protection» took place in the Academy of the MIA of Belarus. Specialists among practitioners dealing with interviewing of persons seeking protection were present at the event. Representatives of the Department on Citizenship and Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus, Region and Minsk city Departments on Citizenship and Migration, Minsk City Bar Association, Public Association «Belarusian Movement of Medical Workers» as well as members of the UNHCR Representation in the Republic of Belarus were among the participants.
