Number of recognized refugees in the Republic of Belarus — 904 (by April 1, 2015)

On April 2, 2015 press briefing with Jean Yves Bouchardy, UNHCR Representative in the Republic of Belarus, and Aliaksandr Tatura, Deputy Head of the Department on Citizenship and Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus, took place at the Faculty of International Relation of Belarusian State University. Representatives of the inforamtion agency Belta, newspapers "SB-Belarus Segodnia", “Minskaya prauda”, “Na strazhe”, “Nastaunitskaya Gazeta”, as well as the BSU Newspaper “Universitet” and journalists of the TV Channel CTV were present at the event. The press-briefing was organized by the International Non-Governmental Association for Scientific Research, Information and Educational Programmes “Evolutio”.

The other day, UNHCR Office in Belarus was pleased to host Ms. Iskui Abalyan, a singer with a charming voice, a talented presenter of music shows and concerts – a Belarusian celebrity-supporter who has been actively engaged into the UNHCR Belarus’ activities for two years. The occasion of the meeting was presenting Ms. Abalyan with a thank you letter, personally addressed to her by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

In his letter, the High Commissioner conveyed his deepest appreciation to Ms. Abalyan for the contributions she has made to the refugee cause: “The work you do to help us raise awareness and support for people whose lives have been torn apart by war and violence is vital”.

• cannot even marry the person he loves…

In 2003, 39 countriesdid not allow women to pass on their nationality to children. In 2015, this number has dropped to 27.

In 2014 UNHCR launched campaign to end statelessness. It is aimed at every person in the world to be under the protection of his country and to have corresponding rights within 10 year. #ibelong

Jean Yves Bouchardy, UNHCR Representative in the Republic of Belarus, and Zeynal Hajiev, Head of the International Organization for Migration Office in Belarus, completed their joint visits to Belarusian regions.
