On September, 1, the Knowledge Day, we conducted an open lesson on refugee issues for pupils of 6 and 8 forms in Gymnasium #42 by Nobel Prize Winner Z. Alferov. Increasing the cultural awareness of refugee problems and the work of United Nations in this sphere were stated as main goals of the lesson. In general, the lesson was aimed at raising the acknowledgement on the problems which representatives of other nationalities face coming to Belarus. Prevention of latent discrimination is also amidst the core ideas of the lesson.
1 September is the Knowledge Day! Unfortunately, today nearly 3.6 million refugee children have no access to school. On the eve of this holiday Ukrainian refugee children received presents as part of UNHCR's Back to School initiative. The meeting with displaced Ukrainian nationals took place on the premises of the Belarusian Red Cross Society office in Grodno. Also school bags with stationery were presented to Afghan children in Brest Temporary Acommodation Centre for Migrants by UNHCR Representative in Belarus Jean Yves Bouchardy.
We believe in every refugee's right to education. Happy Knowledge Day!
